Internships have been an integral part of this study abroad program since 1998. By working with American expats and Chinese professionals alike, students gain valuable first hand experience about the Chinese economy and society.

Summer Internship (in Beijing)

Dates: June 15- August 15
Deadline: April 1
Credits: 6. 5 for internship; 1 for weekly internship seminar.
Time Duration: 288 internship hours total; 4.5 days per week
Fees: $3,500.00
    a. Deposit of $1,000.00 which will be refunded if the internship is not located within 30 days prior to start of internship. ($2,500 + $1,000 (deposit kept if internship is found 30 days in advance to start of internship)= $3,500)
    b. The fees include internship placement, seminar, housing, excursions and travel.

Fall & Spring (in Beijing & Shanghai)

Dates: January 31 - May 17 (Spring 2009); August 29 - December 13 (Fall 2009)
Deadline: November 15(Spring); June 1 (Fall)
Credits: 13. 8 for internship; 2 for weekly internship seminar; 3 for any course from program curriculum.
Time Duration: 540 internship hours total; 4.5 days per week.
Fees: $5,000.
    a. Deposit of $1,000.00 which will be refunded if the internship is not located within 30 days prior to start of internship. ($4,000 + $1,000 (deposit kept if internship is found 30 days in advance to start of internship)= $5,000)
    b. The fees include internship placement, seminar, housing, excursions and travel.

1. Requirements
    a. 3.0 GPA
    b. Resume and cover letter indicating choice of internship areas such as business, law, etc.
    c. Two recommendation letters- one preferably from a former employer.
    d. completion of readings of at least three books in the area of internship company or institution.
    e. completion and presentation of an internship paper of at least 10 pages. The paper should be an analysis of the company or institution for which the students intern and how students benefit from such experiences.

2. Application Procedures
    a. To fill out the online application form
    b. To mail resume and cover letter indication choice of internship areas such as business, law, etc. to: elanhonglee@yahoo.com or sumita888@gmail.com.
    c. To mail transcript and two recommendation letters-one preferably from a former employer-to Rm. B103, History Department, Peking University, Beijing, China 100871.

3. Internship Seminar
    a. A weekly internship seminar will be held to discuss China's business culture and environments, issues arising from work, etc.
    b. Seminar will be one hour in length on Friday afternoon.

4. Grading
    a. A paper of at least 10 pages regarding topics related to the internship will be asked upon completion of the program. The paper should be an analysis of the businesses of the company or institution for which the students intern and how students benefit from the internship experience.
    b. Development of a reading list of at least 3 books or equivalent articles pertaining to the area of expertise of the internship host.
    c. 70% of the grading is done by the intern supervisor/employer through an evaluation form; 30% on internship paper and attendance of the weekly seminar.
